Nothing says the holidays like gifts made of root vegetables...

For I don't know how long, my aunt and my father had made christmas presents for each other out of rutabagas. Not surprisingly, I ended up taking care of a good majority of the crafting, so, after my father died, it became a tradition between my aunt and I. Here's this year's entry...

Dapper Daniel's got something new to wear

Unfortunately, the elf hat doesn't quite fit... but you are creative folk, you'll figure something out...

Merry Christmas!

Hoping Your Christmas is Fabulous

It's already been four years since I first wrote BJ's Unfabulous Christmas, and I have to admit, I am still kind of proud of it. Here's the first page of my colored version, but as many of you know, I still have a few copies of the coloring book version available. Let me know if you don't have one and you need one under your tree.

My First Attempt at Animatronics

I've been obsessed with animatronics ever since my first trip to Disneyworld, where I made my family ride It's A Small World three times in a row. And I haven't missed a Daytons/Marshall Fields/Macy's holiday display (even though this year's was rather anticlimactic). Finally this weekend I had a chance to make one of my own.

His head and arms move around.

Hopefully this will be the first of many!

Holiday Projects

The time away from work has allowed me to finish up a few holiday crafts. Here's what I've worked on so far:

More on the way soon...

Kitten Punch Volume 1 Issue 4.5

I had the pleasure to be a part of the Generic Zine Exchange, where zine artists were asked to send 25 numbered copies of their blog to a grad student in Buffalo (aestheticoutburst.blogspot.com), where 1 copy would be placed in an exhibition, 4 would be archived, and the remaining 20 would be scrambled and redistributed. Therefore, eventually, I will receive 20 blogs by different people from all over the world! The one stipulation was that the cover had to be hand-printed, and I haven't done any sort of printmaking in quite some time. I finally found something that I was fairly pleased with, and stuck them in the mail yesterday. Since the covers are hand-printed, and since part of the project was that there were 25 numbered copies, I decided to post this edition entirely, instead of hand-distributing them. (click on the images to expand them, and, therefore, read them...they're a little blurry, I know. I'm working on it.) Let me know what you think, and how you feel about them in this format!

Monkey Likes To Party

I had a great time decorating for ahlloween, but come November 1st, I wanted it all gone. I am ready to celebrate something new, as is Monkey. Don't know what he's celebrating, but he is ready!

Into The Pool

I have had the honor to work with Blackbird Theatre Company in Chicago on the postcard for their next show, Into the Pool. I'm working on the poster as well, but that's not quite ready yet. Here's the image. And if you are in Chicago, keep your eyes peeled for them, and check out the show in January!

Something Spooky This Way Comes...

I love halloween, and I love crafting, so as you might expect, I've been a little busy. Here are the dandy boys ready for the harvest moon.

(the jars were full, but, well, I like candy...)

Halloween is still a few weeks away, and I have plenty of projects in the works, so check back for updated creepy crafts.

Dislocate

The 4th issue of Dislocate is out!

The release party was a lot of fun, and I had a great opportunity to share Kitten Punch and the rest of my work with a lot of people who've yet to visit Dandyland. The magazine itself is quite beautiful, the readings for the evening were lovely, and the crowd was wonderful. There were more of my drawings published than I had expected!

If you're interested in a copy, let me know, or go to dislocate.org, where copies are available for purchase online!

Hope to see you there!
